Damian Lewis to film new BBC drama Wolf Hall in Bristol, Somerset and Wiltshire

The Homeland actor will join Jonathan Pryce, Claire Foy and Anton Lesser in the British drama to be shot at six National Trust properties

Based on Hilary Mantell's Booker Prize-winning novel, the new BBC production of Wolf Hallis currently filming at Bristol's Bottle Yard Studios in Whitchurch.

The period drama, which includes agent Brody actor Damian Lewis, who will play Henry VIII, and Call the Midwife actress Jessica Raine as Anne Boleyn’s sister-in-law Jane Rochford, will move to shoot at locations around the south of England.

Scenes will include the National Trust's Elizabeathan property Montacute House, plus Tudor manor house Barrington Court, in Somerset. The Trust's Lacock Abbey and Great Chalfield Manor in Wiltshire will also feature, as will Chastleton House in Oxfordshire and Horton Court in Bristol.

The six-part series will follow the rise of Thomas Cromwell in the Tudor court, starting off as a poor son of a blacksmith to becoming King Henry VIII’s trusted advisor.

Written by Oscar-nominated Peter Straughan (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), Wolf Hall will also star Sherlock co-creator Mark Gatiss as the King's secretary Stephen Gardiner. Joanne Whalley (The Borgias) will play Henry's first wife, Catherine of Aragon, Claire Foy (Little Dorrit) will take on the role of his second spouse Anne Boleyn. Meanwhile,  Jonathan Pryce (Cranford) will play Cardinal Wolsey and Anton Lesser (Game of Thrones) will play scholar Thomas More.
