    Hollywood adapts Madame Bovary in Normandy

     

    Downton Abbey” thesp Laura Carmichael, Olivier Gourmet and Logan Marshall-Green have joined the cast of “Madame Bovary,” which begins shooting Monday in Normandy, France.

    Mia Wasikowska stars in the title role along with Ezra Miller, Paul Giamatti, Rhys Ifans and Henry Lloyd-Hughes. Sophie Barthes directs the drama from a screenplay that she co-wrote with Rose Barrenche.

    The Occupant Entertainment production is produced by Joe Neurauter and Felipe Marino in association with Aden Films’ Sophie Barthes and Aleph Motion Picture’s Jaime Mateus-Tique with financing coming from Prescience.

    Tim Smith and Paul Brett are exec producing.

    WME helped put the financing together and is representing US rights. Mimi Steinbauer of Radiant Films International is handling foreign sales.

    Wasikowska plays a young beauty who impulsively marries a small-town doctor to leave her father’s pig farm behind. But after being introduced to the glamorous world of high society, she soon becomes bored with her stodgy mate and seeks excitement and status outside the bonds of marriage.

    Marshall-Green, last seen in “Promotheus,” will play The Marquis. Gourmet will star as Monsieur Roualt and Carmichael has been cast as Henrietta.

    Carmichael plays Lady Edith on ‘Downton Abbey.” She is repped by Curtis Brown Group and Untitled Entertainment.

    Marshall-Green is repped by CAA and 3 Arts Entertainment, Gourmet is repped by Artmedia.
