Game of Thrones season 4: A behind-the-scenes tour
Locations manager Robbie Boake introduces Making Game of Thrones, a look behind the scenes at the sets and props, also featuring interviews with the cast and crewRadio Times Staff
18 March 2014With season four of Game of Thrones almost upon us, locations manager Robbie Boake takes us on a video tour of the Belfast locations and sets from the fantasy drama series.
“We do things akin to feature films – if not at a higher production level at some stages,” Boake tells RadioTimes.com, explaining that Northern Ireland's rich and varied landscapes are ideal for recreating the variety of climates and landscapes seen in the kingdom of Westeros and the lands beyond.
“In a story as diverse as Game of Thrones, you have hot temperate areas where you need ferns, for warm feelings, and the colder more carnivorous areas north of The Wall for the different geographies in the story'" says Boake. [Northern Ireland] is a really good place because you have all those different options available within a stride.
“There are so mainly varied landscapes so close to Belfast. You've got lovely rolling hills, the coast of Antrim, pretty much whatever you need is within an hour of Belfast."
